Car Rental Monastir Airport
Monastir is a town in the South of the Gulf of Hammamet Tunisia Mediterranean with almost 72,000 inhabitants. Already at the time of the Phoenicians and Romans, the place under the name Ruspina was settled. Monastir was later built on the ruins of the old city and in 796 the Ribat, a monastic fortress which was built to protect against the Byzantine Empire, the town's landmark. Today, a part of the Fort houses a museum with exhibits on the local and regional history.
But also alone a tour through the winding course of Monastir with their seemingly endless arrival and conversions is already worthwhile. The medieval Ribat may remind some also on the film set of cult strip 'Life of Brian', which was filmed here. Once one has climbed the fortress offers a fantastic view of the cap of Monastir and the city itself.
Even the relatively new Marina of Monastir is picturesque. The Marina visited mainly by European boats is also a popular meeting place in the coastal town with its small restaurants. In the Medina, the old town of Monastir, the mosque furnished lavishly with marble and Onyx is Habib Bourguiba, which is dedicated to the Tunisian folk hero and former head of State, reformed Tunisia and opened the West.
The promenade of Monastir, the Avenue de la Corniche, where most of the hotels of the town are lined with Palm trees is located below the ubiquitous Ribats. From here, you have a good look at the old fishing harbour of the town.
Also a visit to the 20 km distant Sousse is worth with a rental car.
