Car Rental Lagos
Lagos is a charming, small city in the Portuguese Algarve coast with 17,500 inhabitants. Its original name Lacóbriga goes back to the Iberian Celts who founded the first known settlement here. In the course of its history, Lagos did out with shipbuilding and seafaring. Of the Caravel ship type is designed, for example in the fifteenth century and numerous African expeditions, under Henry the Navigator or Gil Eanes, who is known as son of the city, began in Lagos. Today, the Praça Gil Eanes in the Centre reminds of this time.
Touristically interesting is next to the beautiful beaches of Lagos, such as Praia Dona Ana, MEIA Praia or the Ponta da Piedade with its bizarre rock formations, the old town of the town. Especially, the Church Igreja stands it out do Santo Antonio. From the outside almost inconspicuous, a nave furnished with beautiful baroque elements, which is topped by a gilded altar hides inside. The Praça da República a statue of Henry the Navigator reminds not only on the glorious epochs of Lagos, but also on one of the largest slave, who here regularly took place from the 15th century.
The narrow, steep streets, almost all of which lead to the imposing, palm-fringed promenade on the sea, invite small romantic bars and shops to stroll around, such as the 1995 newly built Marina. However, a drive with the car along the scenic coastal road in the region around Lagos or in the numerous small coves which, itself, move from here to the westernmost point of Europe up to SAGRES is necessarily worthwhile.
